Atlanta Weimaraner Rescue

Preston - Atlanta, GA
http://www.atlantalovesweims.org/rescues.htm

Preston is a handsome blue male Weimaraner that came to us from a N. Georgia shelter where he was picked up as a stray. He is approximately one year old and has a lot of energy (a typical Weim). He gets along well with other dogs, but probably would not be suited for a home with cats. Because of his high energy, Preston probably would not be well suited for a home with small children, either. Preston needs to learn some manners, but appears to be house broken and does well in a crate. He is neutered and is up-to-date on his shots. We are still getting to know Preston and will post updates soon. Atlanta Weimaraner Club Rescue 770-971-6104 (h)  www.AtlantaLovesWeims.org

Abigaile -  Sun Valley, California (Southern CA)
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=3686949

Abigail was released by owner due to lifestyle changes. She's a pretty blue. With access to a dog door, she is reliably housetrained. She prefers to be the only pet in the family. She does not do well with multi-hours alone. She thrives on human contact, is responsive, and affectionate. Abigail has severe reactions to vaccines (and apples); we do have a veterinarian's letter stating that she must NOT receive vaccines. (She almost died once - ) While many Weims have severe reactions to multiple vaccines, it generally requires emergency care before a vet will state in writing that a particular dog must never again receive a vaccine. (We advocate with dogs who have not yet shown vaccine-reaction illness, the separation by 3 weeks of killed Parvo, Distemper, Rabies.) An exceptionally handsome blue boy who trusts only his immediate family. Duke will be placed in a quiet adult household where he's not required to socialize. He's willing to please and will learn quickly any new rules. He's affectionate and responsive - but not with strangers. Bronco is a stunning 18 month blue male. His path to us was convoluted. Bronco originally came from a Utah shelter with the involvement of an out-of -state Weim Rescue. He's now released to our care - and we find him exceptional. Bronco is personable, affectionate, self-assured. This boy is a prize. He prefers all the attention in his family - thus, we're suggesting no children.  Friends For Pets Foundation Sun Valley, CA 818/767-5919 friendsforpets@hotmail.com

Reno - Sun Valley, California (Southern CA)
http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=8222752&mtf=1

Reno's photos, taken as his dad was signing his release forms, show clearly the confusion each dog experiences when brought in. ( It's a much more joyous situation when the dogs leave for their new homes.) Reno is quiet, exceptionally well-behaved, housetrained and crate-trained. Reno does not trust men, however. His records show that he was sent at a year old to a training school; when he returned, he had difficulty walking; the vet diagnosed a spinal injury. Please, people, for varying reasons - never send your dog away to a training school.  Friends For Pets Foundation Sun Valley, CA 818/767-5919 friendsforpets@hotmail.com

Farley - Grand Rapids Michigan
http://www.greatlakesweimrescue.com/available-weimaraners.htm#farley

4.5 yr old neutered male...was left to run on a farm (never had a collar on until he was given to the shelter in WI)...has some resource guarding issues with food not surprising as he was seriously underweight when he arrived and sick with kennel cough. He is still very rough with his coat being dry and bleached. He is slowly starting to warm up to us, but he prefers dog company to human right now. Very good in his crate.  For more information email: applications@greatlakesweimrescue.com

Luke - Grand Rapids Michigan
http://www.greatlakesweimrescue.com/available-weimaraners.htm#luke

7 year old neutered male - avaerage height, slighter build, very lean structure. Nice dog was the victim of a divorce and was turned into a shelter with a GSP by the owner. Well cared for, gets along with other dogs okay but prefers to be by himself or with people. Great in his crate and is housebroken. Would be fine with cats, kids and other dogs. He is not real interested in children, but doesn't seem to mind them either. Would be wonderful for an elderly person as he is very gentle and leash walks well.

Hello my friends, my name is Luke. I am a blue male Weimaraner. I am 7 years young and am looking forward to starting a fresh new life with a new family. I get along well with other k-9's, but most of all I love humans. I came into rescue from a shelter. I was quite thin when my friends from Great Lakes Weimaraner Rescue picked me up, but little by little I am putting on weight and getting back to what I should be.  Anyway, no sense dwellin' on the past, I am ready to start new, maybe with you? Sincerely, LUKE

Major - Grand Rapids Michigan
http://www.greatlakesweimrescue.com/available-weimaraners.htm#major

Greetings everyone, my name is Major. I am a handsome 4 year old blue Weimaraner. There are lots interesting things to know about me, because I march to a different drummer.  I will need a family that enjoys a fun k-9. I enjoy looking up at things, if you have something in the closet on the top shelf, I will see it. And I will not forget that stuffed animal is there or that funny shaped what-cha-ma-call-it is on the top of the refrigerator. If a flicker of light from a flashlight comes along I will chase it. If there is no place left on the coach to sit, I will sit on the back or the arm of the coach. I love to snuggle at night and would love to sleep with you. I do not like to be crated, too confining for me because I need to be able to look around and investigate. I do like other k-9's but get my feelings hurt quickly if another k-9 doesn't understand my inquisitiveness and puts me in my place. I will cry like a baby, because even though I am 4 I feel much more like a puppy. I am an interesting fella, no doubt about it. And wouldn't the world be boring if we all were alike?  Well off I go I see something on the ceiling.   For more information email: applications@greatlakesweimrescue.com

Nugen - Wisconsin Nugen's Blog
http://www.greatlakesweimrescue.com/available-weimaraners.htm#nugen

Hi I am Nugen, an 8 year old blue male.   Don't let my age fool you, I have lots of energy to play.  I am neutered and crate-trained and am currently being fostered in Wisconsin. I came into the rescue because my family moved to Africa  and it was too far for me to travel.

My foster mom and dad love having me around though.  I am a very mellow and easy-going guy.  I LOVE to play fetch and Frisbee and will be your best friend if you can throw the ball for me. I get along with other dogs just great, but I'm not so sure about those cats. I would prefer a home without them. I am very well mannered in the house and stay off of the furniture and sleep on a dog bed at night. I even ride in the car nicely.  I also listen so well outside, that I'm allowed off my leash occasionally.

I am a little shy around new people, but am getting better since my foster home has lots of new people to meet. My foster mom thinks that I would be fine around children. I do have some allergies and have been Lyme Disease positive in the past but don't show any symptoms.

I'm looking forward to finding a new fur-ever home!    With Love, Nugen added 12/16/08

Heartland Weimaraner Rescue

Scorch - Kansas City
DONATIONS NEEDED TO HELP WITH SURGERY

http://www.heartlandweimrescue.org/

Permission given to cross post by all.__._

Originally posted 12/7/08:  Scorch is a beautiful 3 - 4 month old blue weimaraner puppy who was dumped at a kill shelter when the breeder found he couldn't find a buyer for a puppy with a broken leg! The shelter was kind enough to contact us for help. With little information on the possibilities of how the injury occurred,  we have heard everything from possible birth defect, to a later injury that the breeder didn’t want to admit to. Heartland agreed to take Scorch in and do right by this baby. You can see from the photo, the damage starts a the shoulder, then down to the knee, and from the knee down down, the leg is healing sideways.   Scorch is being fostered in the Kansas City Metro area by our Director Gail, who said the photo of his knee doesn’t begin to show the damage, swelling, and disturbing appearance of his leg.

He is scheduled to see Dr. Becker (our vet who did Charlie and Parker's surgery) Monday, December 9th, and surgery is scheduled for Tuesday. Knowing orthopedic surgeries are the most expensive to have done, but at only 3-4 months old, Scorch deserves a chance to have it fixed right. Due to the usual before the holidays "Weimaraner dump" on HWR, our bank account is running very low and we are not able to afford the surgery for Scorch's leg. Usually we simply ask the Weimaraner World for help, this time we are begging. We all remember the miracles Dr. Becker did for Charlie and Parker; please help us make a Christmas Miracle happen for Scorch by donating money to his medical fund. No amount is too small, they all add up! You can donate through PayPal by UserName – heartlandweimrescue@kc.rr.com, or you can send a check made payable to Heartland Weim Rescue and send it to: HWR - 7805 Lee Drive - Pleasant Valley MO 64068. All donations are Tax Deductible. All the volunteers with Heartland Weimaraner Rescue Thank You All for your generous support!

Update 12/8/08:  Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far to Scorch’s medical fund!  He will see Dr. Becker this afternoon, and I will let you all know what the Good Doc has to say.  Keep your fingers, and toes crossed for good news!

Scorch doesn’t seem to be in pain, although I don’t know how, unless he has gotten used to it.  There is no heat in the joints, which bothers me, I am fearing that the bones have healed which will make Dr. Becker’s job even harder, and more involved. I am not going to dwell on it, it is what it is and we will do whatever Dr Becker feels is best for him.  It times like this that I am happy Dr Becker loves a challenge!  He did very well here yesterday afternoon, he wanted to play with the other foster pups here, but I was scared to let him do too much.  So I held him and allowed the other pups to smell each other with very limited interaction.  He ate a good dinner, but between the transport, excitement, and being in a new place, he was tired.   I was surprised he fell asleep after dinner and slept all evening, then through the night without a sound.

He had alone time out of his kennel yesterday so I could watch his movements.  I told you all yesterday that the stories ranged from birth defect to obvious broken leg.  I can’t see it being a birth defect.  The muscles are the same size in both front legs (although he does show signs of atrophy) and the bones are the same length.  He doesn’t walk on it of course, but he does try to use it like he has had the use in the past (make sense?)  He tries to dig, and move toys around with it. When he walks it sweeps under his chest like he is trying to hold it up and get it out of the way.

Scorch is a snuggler, and kisser.  He is loving life indoors, and the cushion of soft blankets.  He watches television, and cocks his head to the side at commercials, we shouldn’t laugh….we do it too!

I am off to work, Scorch will spend the day with Brian. I am taking a couple hours off this afternoon to take him to Dr Becker.  Thank you again everyone!! Have a GREAT day. Gail - Heartland Weimaraner Rescue

Update 12/8/08:  Late this afternoon we took Scorch in to see Dr. Becker. He verified that Scorch is only 14 weeks old, and after x-raying his leg, stated, “There is no way this was a birth defect, this injury was caused by some type of abuse, by kicking or hitting the leg with something.” The leg was broken above the knee, and also shows signs of crushing to parts of the knee itself. This is not a fresh injury, Dr Becker said that due to all the scar tissue, and calcification he would not be able to determine the full impact of the injury until he did surgery. He indicated that there would be hours of chipping and breaking away of calcification to determine if the leg can even be saved.

We had to leave a brave little Scorch with Dr. Becker for the night, he is scheduled for surgery first thing in the morning. First, let me say, that Dr. Becker is not one for shortcuts. He enjoys a challenge, and the thought of hours of surgery doesn’t bother him at all. If there is any way the leg can be saved and Scorch have any reasonable use of it, it will happen. Then the hours of re-hab will begin. Worse case scenario, nothing can be done and his leg will be amputated, this is not something we discussed at any length at all, as he and I both feel the same about amputation – we don’t like it. He is concerned about growth plate damage, and making sure the knee will glide smoothly within itself. The best thing we have going for us is that he is only 14 weeks old. Bones are still growing, and with all our prayers this evening and morning, Scorch will come through this like Charlie and Parker and his Christmas Miracle will happen.

As for the breeder, the shelter is being notified so that an investigation can be initiated into the abuse of Scorch, and any other weimaraners this breeder has in his possession.

I will post the results of his surgery tomorrow as soon as I can, in the meantime, please remember Scorch in your prayers.

Again, all the volunteers with Heartland Weimaraner Rescue wish to thank everyone for their donations (and the special toy I hear is on the way for Scorch – to keep him occupied in his crate while he is re-cooping) Your donations have all been set aside to pay for his surgery and re-hab. Once we have the full story from surgery, it’s cost and an estimate for re-hab we will post it and if the amount has been reached we will ask that the donations stop, but at this point we are organizing other fund raisers to be held to help us raise the money needed.

Take Care, Gail & Volunteers of Heartland Weimaraner Rescue

Update 12/9/08: Scorch had surgery this afternoon….he still has a four legs!  Before we all get too excited, the next 36 hours are critical until Dr Becker is able to see how much nerve damage has been done – hopefully not to the point where we are forced to discuss amputation again.  We will know Thursday afternoon, so keep those prayers coming.

For the most part, surgery went well, several hours of it, but well.  Once inside Dr Becker determined the bones were not damaged as bad as he had feared.    Again, cleaning up the joint from scar tissue and calcification etc was the time breaker.

With Scorch’s miracle just within reach, Dr. Becker feels if the nerves are not too badly damaged he hopes that Scorch would have 75% use of the leg – that’s a far cry from the O% use he had yesterday!

From the beginning the ARL in Waterloo IA has been wonderful to work with.  When we were first contacted by the ARL, they told us of how the breeder brought Scorch and his mother to the shelter.  The breeder said mom had trouble whelping and ended up having a c-section, and suffered a broken pelvis as a result of the trouble, the breeders vet cared for the broken pelvis.  They were told Scorch’s leg was a “birth defect.” and that he was 5 ½ months old.  The ARL was suspicious of the story and when they contacted us for help relayed the story and suspicions.  “Gracie” (Scorch’s mother) was walking fine, so all efforts were concentrated on getting Scorch the surgery he needed.

While arrangements were now being made to pull Gracie, the ARL noticed with the cold Gracie was beginning to show signs of pain and lameness in the rear.  They took her to their vet who x-rated her and they were told that indeed Gracie had suffered a broken pelvis, but NOT from whelping, but due to a severe blow to the pelvis.  The vet further added that it was obvious that Gracie has NOT received medical attention for the break.

For now the vet has her on pain meds as needed, and feels she will need surgery in the future.

We are going to ask Dr. Becker to call the vet in Waterloo and discuss the injury with him, but it looks  like Gracie will need to have surgery also, and share a re-hab room with Scorch.

I hope this breeder doesn’t have any more weimaraners.  Will let you all know tomorrow how Scorch did overnight, and any news on Gracie.

Thanks for all the prayers and donations…..with Gracie next in line, they are needed more today than yesterday.  –Gail Heartland Weimaraner Rescue

Update 12/13/08: Dr. Becker did the evaluation on Scorch and...SCORCH RECEIVED HIS CHRISTMAS MIRACLE! His paw faces the front of his body and his has feeling from his shoulder to his toes!!

He comes home to me for foster Monday afternoon. He will get a soft cast Monday morning, and it will need to set up before he can leave. His movement will be very restricted, so he will be crated, and Brian will have to carry him out to potty.

He is through the worst of it now, and will begin physical therapy to learn to use that lag again as soon as Dr. Becker releases him.

I will get pictures of his homecoming on Monday and post them.

Scorch's mother is next. Her surgery will be more painful, they will have to re-break her pelvis, clean it up and set it. We now have her foster in KC set so we are finalizing the plans to get her to KC and have her surgery done.

Thanks again for all the donations...every single donation counts, and with the economy the way it is, we appreciate your donations even more.  - Take Care, Gail, Heartland Weimaraner Rescue

Update 12/15/08:  Scorch came home today!  What a great puppy!!  His tail and tongue wouldn’t stop when he saw us!  His leg looks beautiful!  While there is still a huge amount of swelling to the knee,  Dr. Becker showed us how it now BENDS!  He has about 20 staples, and a drainage tube that will remain for at least a week.  He is confined to the crate, but he is taking it very well.  Shhh, I did let him out long enough today to take a nap on a chair while I did some paperwork watching him.

He returns to his buddy Dr. Becker a week from today for a check up.  Dr. Becker is hoping that with physical therapy that he will actually regain 80% of what it should be.  Like any severe injury, arthritis will be a concern for the future, but that is many years down the road.  It will be at least two to three more weeks before he can start the physical therapy.  We are going to contact Sherry (Charlie and Parkers therapist) and she if she can fit us into her schedule.  She is a busy lady now, so I better call her this week.

Here are a couple pictures that I took of Scorch today. Considering the surgery he just went through, I think he looks gorgeous

!

Update 12/26/08:  Scorch

Sorry that I am late in posting the updates, between wrapping gifts at Borders for Heartland to raise donations, working with Scorch (will explain below), and family holiday obligations, I ran out of time!

Scorch – Was seen by Dr. Becker on Dec 22nd. His drainage tube was removed, but the staples will remain for one more week. They will be removed Monday the 29th during his next check up.

Dr. Becker was able to manipulate the knee, 50% range!! The time has come to start working with Scorch several times a day, first we use warm moist heat for 10 minutes, then work the knee for about 5 minutes, then a moist cold pack for 10 minutes – all this takes about 30 minutes and has to be done 4 times a day to get and keep the knee moving. We are hoping he can start physical therapy in another couple weeks.

He is a wonderful puppy, very sweet and gentle. I know he is in more pain, as he whimpered last night with his last knee workout. I wish we could give him pain meds, but Dr Becker fears he will try and do too much if he is pain free and all this will be for nothing. So we abide by Dr Becker’s orders, and snuggle with him lovingly every chance we can, so he doesn’t think the only time we touch him is to hurt him.

Gracie

I wish I could tell you her surgery was done and over with, but I can’t. She also went to Dr. Becker’s office on Dec 22nd. We left her there so Dr Becker could do x-rays and surgery that afternoon. When we called that afternoon to check on her, Dr Becker said he had not done the surgery, and wasn’t sure he was going to be able to. He wanted to think about it overnight and would discuss it with us the next morning.

I called on the 23rd, and he was still not sure. He explained that the way the pelvis was broken, and healed, it has pushed the femoral ball up and was pushing into her bowel. While she is not having constipation issues now, he felt that she could in the future and should have something done, but he also said when the surgery needed to be done was in the area of her sciatic nerve, and while he felt he could miss it, he doesn’t want to make matters worse. He was calling a colleague and I was to call him again later that afternoon.

When I called him, he said he had sent the x-rays to Children’s Mercy Hospital for evaluation with a colleague. He still feels something needs to be done, it’s more a matter of which way will be the best to accomplish it, if they can do anything at all. He continues to say he didn’t want to make matters worse for Gracie. I was to call him again the morning of the 24th.

I called that morning and he said that several doctors at the hospital were looking the x-rays over and he didn’t have an answer for us yet. We discussed his travel plans for the holidays (he would be gone from the 27th to Jan 3rd) We agreed that to rush surgery that day, and his leaving town, would not be of benefit to Gracie. While she is uncomfortable, she is not in severe pain, it would be best to wait for his return and for him to be able to consult with the other doctors. At this point Dr Becker maintains that if this was a human, something would be done, and this is what he is trying to accomplish. Our biggest problem is that the pelvis has healed and trauma to it again might make her gait and issues down the road years from now worsen. He did say that had she received medical treatment when it happened that they could have inserted a finger (sorry for the graphic on that one) into her rectum and pushed the femoral ball back into place and she would have been so much better off than she is now.

We admire and respect Dr Becker for everything he has done for the weims in the past, (He has saved four legs that other vets wanted to amputate) I am concerned about Gracie and what is going to happen. Gracie’s foster mom – Megan – said she is doing very well at her home, and is getting along great with the other dogs there. She is on vacation and is taking the time to show Gracie what love from a human is all about.

We will continue our efforts to raise money for Gracie’s surgery, and re-hab, she is just as sweet and gentle as Scorch – it’s easy to see where Scorch got his temperament. There were a couple of people who stated that after the 1st of the year they would put in for their workplace company grants for Scorch, and Gracie. Thank you very much.

We will be organizing an on line raffle with wonderful items to share with you, and hope to have it posted by Sunday evening. If you have anything you would like to donate, please contact me private at heartlandweimrescue@kc.rr.com.

I will let you all know how Scorch’s visit with Dr Wingert goes on Monday, and how Gracie is doing at Megan’s.

Thanks to Everyone – please keep Gracie and her “doctor’s” in your prayers that they will determine the best surgery possible to help her.

Time permitting, I might let Scorch have time on the keyboard to send you all a message.

Gail and All the Volunteers with Heartland Weim Rescue.

Born into rescue after their mother was saved from a kill shelter, these 2 puppies, 1 male (blind from birth) and 1 female are adorable! Current on wormings, and vaccinations. We really want the pups to stay together, so the donation asked for covers only their vetting to date. They are fostered in the Kansas City Metro area. Comet & Ray's Adoption Donation will be $100 for both pups. added 12/16/08

Louisville Weimaraner Rescue

Oh, hello there.  My name is Heidi.  I’m new to the area and oh so happy to be here.  It was a long ride from my old home, if you want to call it that.  I spent the last few years of my life in a puppy mill, producing many litters of beautiful little Weimaraner puppies.  Of course, they were all taken away, and I’m sure they are in great homes, providing their families with love, protection, and companionship.  Me, I’m just happy to be alive.  The mill I was living in was closing down, and the humans that owned me were going to shoot me, since I was no longer of any use to them.  Thankfully a wonderful lady saved me and two of my Weimaraner friends.  I am now on vacation at my foster home, which I share with two other Weimaraners (they are the plain ol’ silver type).  I am approximately 5 years old, but my years have been long and hard, and they have taken their toll on my body, so I’m not as crazy as most Weims. I arrived in Ohio with a lot of health issues, but thanks to a great lady in a white coat, I am feeling much better, and hope to make a full recovery soon.  I am good around most any creature I have met, even my new neighbor, a Jack Russell Terrier named Scooter!  I am interested in chasing bunnies, so I may not do well with cats.  I do fine with children, but their loud noises and quick movements can be scary sometimes.  Since I have never really been free before, I still need help learning what it is to be a pet.  A family with grown kids and other dogs would be ideal for me.  I have mastered walking on a leash, I get to walk two blocks every morning and evening, and although sometimes I howl a bit, I really don’t mind my crate too much.   I do have a bit of a wild side sometimes, but its pretty tame and shorted lived, especially compared to my foster sisters.
I hope you will check out my blog –
http://heidiweimaraner.blogspot.com – it will tell you all about my time here on vacation, and how my health is progressing.  I am a very sweet girl and I am ready to find my own family to love, protect, and spend the rest of my life with.  I am being fostered in Bowling Green OH. added 9/29/08

Mile High Weimaraner Rescue

Max - Denver, CO
http://www.mhwc.org/rescue/available.shtml#max

08/07/08 - Max is a 3 year old male weim. He has been in boarding in Utah for several weeks waiting on a rescue group that never came. He needs a foster home ASAP (his transport to Denver has already been arranged). Update Hi I am Max!. My foster family describes me as very affectionate and friendly. I even know a few commands and say I am willing to learn more for you. I am very good on a leash and love to go for walks but I do get distracted by things when I walk. I would definitely benefit from an obedience class. I do have a lot of energy so I tend to like the older kids better since they can play with me a little more than the little ones. I am not particularly fixated on toys per say but I do enjoy a good nylabone. I don't do well with fences that are not secure or under 6 foot as I am a very agile climber and I do mean "climber". I am great around other dogs and I am not a proficient barker at this point. I like my crate that my foster family has for me and I enjoy getting out with them and going for car rides. I look forward in seeing you at the meet and greet sometime. mhwcrsqapprqst@msn.com

08/13/08 - Cole Hi ..I am a 9 1/2 year old purebred blue weimaraner (neutered male) who lives in Denver. My parents just had a baby a little over three months ago and I'm not adjusting well to the new addition. I am not used to little kids, have always lived with other dogs, but would prefer to have the undivided attention of my owners. I may be in my golden years, but I have no health problems and hardly any grey hair. I also love to go for long walks/runs and lounging on the couch in my free time. If you think you might have a good place for me would you please contact the rescue. Thanks.  mhwcrsqapprqst@msn.com

Siggy - Denver, CO
http://www.mhwc.org/rescue/available.shtml#siggy

11/11/08 - Siggy is a beautiful 1 1/2 year old male Weimaraner. He is a lot of fun to be around and is a sweet weim to be with. Siggy is your typical high energy weim. He loves to be out playing for hours on end. He needs an active family that wants to have a weim to go hiking with or running or any other focused activity. He would just love to be part of a family that he could call his own. His former family had a kid that was allergic to dogs... so yes he does fine with kids that love to play with him, especially the older ones. He does like to play fetch when the mood suits him. He could use some leash training classes.. though with any dog you get that should be part of the regiment to better help you and your dog understand one another. Siggy is currently in boarding and would love a place to call home even temporarily. Please won't you help us get Siggy a foster home.... by contacting us at mhwcrsqapprqst@msn.com added 11/21/08

Gunner - Ontario, Canada
http://www.weimaranercanada.org/rescue/candidates.htm

\

Gunner is a big, enthusiastic, happy Blue Weimaraner that needs regular exercise and attention than he was getting in his previous home.  He gets along well with children and other dogs although can be a bit overwhelmed by bossier dogs.  Gunner's main issue is mild Separation anxiety - he is currently in a foster home and has been left for short periods of time. So far he has not been destructive but did bark quite a bit. The key is to make sure he is well-exercised before leaving him and to build up the time he is left, gradually. He is not good in a crate.

The ideal home for Gunner will be willing to work on his anxiety while providing a secure environment and making sure his energy is channeled properly.  Gunner is currently being fostered and his Foster Mom will have the final word in his placement. Please contact Deb Wilson - Email:  weim@vaxxine.com  or Phone (905) 935-9590 to receive our application which is necessary to proceed with our adoption process.

Eliza - Dallas, TX
http://www.weimrescuetexas.org/Flyers/Eliza.htm

ELIZA is a lovely 10 year old blue female Weimaraner. She is enjoying the good life in her foster home and despite her maturity, she has tons of playful puppy in her! Eliza is a sweet girl, who is compatible with other dogs, but can be somewhat dominant. She tolerates the cats as long as they keep their distance. Eliza loves to play with stuffed toys and carries them everywhere. She is house trained and can be left alone for 4-5 hrs with no accidents. After that, no guarantees, but she is good about using puppy pads. Eliza loves attention and petting, but will lie quietly at your feet, too. She will get on the couch or bed if invited. She knows sit, lie down, stay and 'no'. She rides extremely well in the car and walks nicely on leash. Please ask about Eliza when you contact Weim Rescue....she is a GREAT GIRL! Weimaraner Rescue of the South

Jewel - Florida (panhandle area)
http://www.weimrescue.com/newversion/DisplayWeimDetails.aspx?ID=365

Let me tell you a little bit about me:
Oct update: Jewel is a quick & lively girl who would LOVE to find her forever home! Her favorite thing is a game of chace, running full speed & jumping over everything in her path...sofas, chairs, coffee tables, whatever is in her path! She is still a bit mouthy when you come home. She is so happy to see you that she just cannot contain herself! Jewel (nicknamed Julie) is a great dog who would do best in a home with a submissive male. ********
August 8 Update- Jewel is a sassy little girl who is full of life- she is very sweet with lots of love to give. She would enjoy having someone home a lot who can shower her with time and lots of attention. She really loves to be pampered; will even let you brush her, bathe her, clean her ears and clip her nails without making a fuss. She loves to share your bed at night, snuggle with you on the couch and sun herself by the pool- but she has yet to take a swim. She and her foster brother love a good game of chase anytime and if he is not interested she can find birds or other critters outside to chase! She is very good with her toys and food- will share with anyone and expects you to do the same. She has not been a counter surfer. The one thing Jewel really hates is having to go out and get her feet wet in the grass. She has been here with me for 6 months and simply wants to lay her head in your lap and show you what a loving weim she can be!******************************April 2007 update: Julie (as I now affectionately call her) has been with me for 4-1/2 months now and she is a little sweetheart, very loving and greatly appreciates attention both from myself as well as from Bacardi my male weim. They get along wonderfully together, so I think she would have no problem bonding with another dog. She does prefer to be the dominate dog … she and Bacardi have worked this out themselves with very little intervention from me.
She is still mouthy but has shown much improvement, this is something I work on continually… She is NOT vicious or aggressive. Being mouthy is her way of getting your attention when she is excited. Now she primarily does it when I return home after being away from her. While with me, Julie has not been exposed to children.
Many weims have strong prey drives and Julie is no exception. She enjoys giving chase to and barking at everything from frogs, lizards, birds, squirrels, and yes cats. She is fast and very quick... actually caught a nesting cardinal. She barks at any noise both indoors or outside, but you can get hers settle down fairly easily.
Julie can be crated when I leave home or left loose in the house. She can also be crated for the night. She crates very easily simply stand by the crate and say “Julie crate” and she goes right in, no problem. However, now she sleeps in my bed at night (at first Bacardi did not allow this. I cover them with their blankets and they sleep through the night.
She can be active, likes to run through the house (playing chase with Bacardi as fast as she can) and jumps over sofas, chairs, end tables! Note: she never breaks anything. Julie and Bacardi will play chase like this for 10 minutes at a time off and on during a day. She also loves to curl/snuggle up beside you or on top of you on the sofa or chair she loves to be close to her humans, as is normal for the breed. Julie also can be quite the “couch-potato” she likes to snuggle up on the sofa with me or Bacardi... but her favorite place is to curl up in the Papa-Son-Chair and nap during the day. She likes to chew on her Kong type toys (others just do not hold up for my weims)...especially likes the ones filled with treats.
She is pure love and returns every ounce of love you give right back to you. She really does thrive on your undivided attention. I think she would be okay as an only dog … if her Human(s) were at home with her most of the time. I do not think she would be happy left home alone for extended periods of time in cases where husband and wife work full time.

**********Update January 2007- Jewel is still doing well in her foster home! Her foster Mom says she is a very active weim- but she would not say *hyper*- she loves to run and play (bot
