Levi- TN,AL

Name: Levi Gender: M Age: 4 yrs approx
Let me tell you a little bit about me:
Jan2009update: Levi is a great boy….very social & gets along well with other dogs. We attended a Weim play date & Levi made sure he visited with each person & turned on the charm…leaning on them for affection & smiling the entire time! Just a big ham!!! We had 5 dog visitors in our home during hurricane Gustav & Levi was a great host….welcomed everyone & enjoyed playing with new friends. I scale his teeth & clip his nails with no problem…sometimes he almost goes to sleep on me -he is so relaxed! Just a big, sweet boy who loves attention. Levi will be a great addition to the right family! *****
May update: Levi is a funny boy. If I’ve been out of the house for an hour or 2, he greats me by “talking” to me! It’s very funny…I only wish I could understand what he’s saying! He is also what I call “a leaner”. He likes to lean on you for affection. He really is a charmer – smiling & leaning on you for love! Levi is a calm boy for his age & likes to be close to his “mom”. He is quite an opportunist…He’s quick to squeeze into the “prime spot” as soon as anyone makes the mistake of getting up to stretch or go potty, etc. I previously would have said he had a very low prey drive, but Hattie is trying her best to teach him to hunt. They like to flush the birds out of the bushes in the back yard. Also like to run & bark at the cows when they come up close to our fence.
We finally diagnosed the tiny bumps on the inside of his ears as a fungal infection. After 1 month of meds, they are clear & he is not so snappy about his ears being handled now! Levi is still a rough treat taker… He does a little better if I remind him to be “easy”, but he still slips up & snaps down pretty hard at times. He has learned to “sit up” for a treat & is very proud of himself.
Levi is still in a chewing phase (my sofa has seen better days!) but does not crate well. The best situation for him would be a home with another large breed dog. It would be ideal to have a safe “dog room” with doggie door access to a securely fenced yard for the hours when nobody was at home. (He will dig at times, so I have poured a trench of quickcrete around the base of my fence….Just to be safe!) Levi gets a little too excited when you run & rough house, jumping to grab your arm in his mouth….so probably not the best for a home with young kids.

Oct update: Levi has made himself quite at home. He now shares the human bed with me & 2 of my weims! Levi loves to wrestle with Mick & play chase with me…but for the most part is very laid back for a weim his age. You can see from the photos, that he also likes to chew on sticks. I put out some new pine mulch & he did a great job of picking out all the sticks & getting rid of those for me! Lucas (the 4 month old pup) is staying with us for a while & Levi does not like Lucas constantly jumping at his face. We will see if this changes with a little time…If not, I would not put him in a home with a small hyper dog. He is great with the other weims in my home ranging from age 7 to 11 years. Levi still does not like to be crated. I am feeding him every meal in his crate & he is not stressed like he was in the beginning. However, he still barks in protest if I am slow about letting him out after he has finished his meal. He has done well with full access to the house. When I leave, he does tend to chew on the dish towel or hand towels….so I am learning to put those away before I go anywhere! (Funny how these dogs train US!) Levi is an all round great dog who would do great in a home with at least 1 other dog. I think he would be fine with older kids, but he does not like to have his ears pulled, so I would not recommend him for a home with young children.

Levi is a happy, handsome blue male who came to us from a Tennessee shelter. Levi has a sweet disposition & gets along well with other dogs (even my dominant female). My male barked & snarled at Levi, but he just ignored everything & went along his merry way sniffing the new surroundings. He did not like riding in a crate…barked to make sure I knew he was not happy, but settled down after a few minutes. He spent the night with us & was fairly content to sleep on a dog bed next to the human bed. Levi ran around in the yard & played a bit, but wanted to keep a close eye on me. I think he will be more secure once he settles into a foster home, but I suspect he will need to be in an environment with at least 1 other dog. We will post more info as we get to know him better.
Levi will be neutered this week, is UTD on vaccinations & on HW prevention.
